Southbank

May 8, 2011

We had a really lovely day at the Southbank last Monday. This summer it is dripping in seaside nostalgia with old ice cream vans, beach hut galleries and a huge sand pit. It was an unusually windy day – skirts and hats went flying, the rows of paper aeroplanes near the Jubilee Bridge looked like they were about to blow away from their wires. We stopped off at the balcony bar in the Royal Festival Hall for spicyspicyspicy ginger beers and in the evening saw Frankenstein at the National Theatre. Excellent times.

Just a few photos from last year that made me smile on Monday when I found them

Saturday

May 2, 2011

Saturday was dim sum and cupcakes at the Drunken Monkey in Shoreditch followed by beers at the always great Strongroom and a dance at the worst club with the best dancefloor in London The Electricity Showrooms.

Budapest Snaps

April 26, 2011

A few snapshots of Budapest memories – finding numerous love tokens around the city, getting an upgrade to a six bed apartment even though there was just two of us, realising the decay up close, an uphill trek just for a photo of Matthias church, getting caught in a motorcycle rally, finding all the antique shops closed, resting up outside Budapest castle.

The Danube

Budapest is rather special

Behind London Bridge train station is the Old Operating Theatre. It’s rather inconspicuous and much smaller than I thought but really interesting to visit. I loved all the medical posters, old tins and the apothecary jars, especially the ones with with the fairy lights inside them. Oh and the sign that says marshmallow is healthy. But it were only true.

In no way did any of the operating instruments put us off our food either – as soon as we left we ran across the road to Furness Fish, Poultry and Game in Borough Market for their yummy Vietnamese curry.

This lone Ireland photo that is left on my computer wishes you a good one.

Favourite Things

March 15, 2011

It may be childish, a little flimsy and stupidly expensive to change the bulb but I love my Starmaster. I can switch it on and I’m propelled to another universe.

South London Gallery

March 2, 2011

These were taken in the South London Gallery on a recent walk around Camberwell. They’ve just joined the South London Arts Map and will be open late on the first Friday of every month so I’ve got no excuse not to visit more often. Their cafe looks nice too, dinner soon I think.
